A DIY World: The Death of Professional Services?

June 27th, 2010

When e-commerce first began back in the early days of the internet it levelled the playing field for all businesses, giving them the ability to sell goods online to customers around on a global, before this you had to go to the physical store to buy or at least have them order you the goods.

But e-commerce if nothing new, it’s a concept we all understand, but as web applications develop in sophistication and as users start to accept the internet more and more I have noticed something interesting. The internet is littered with companies that have gone to great lengths to make service industries extinct through innovation.

Welcome to unlached.com

April 15th, 2010

Hi, my name is Lachlan and welcome to my blog.

When I first decided to start my own personal blog, I thought I would try to be a little clever with the URL and avoid the usual www.firstname-lastname.com that most personal blog tend to go for. I went for the play on words,  similar to Robert Scoble’s Scobleizer and Chris Pearson’s Pearsonified. After only having the domain for a short time, I’m already starting to realise that its not the easiest to word to pronounce, so I’m going to make  it easy for everyone.

Unlached pronounced exactly the same way as Unlocked. Easy right? Just like Lachlan (my name) is pronounced exactly the same way as Lock-lan. Almost as easy right?

Ok. Well semantics aside, the main reason for me setting up this blog is simple, to share my thoughts on interest things, topics and ideas that I stumble upon. I will use this space as a writing pad to discuss topics separate from my work, however I can’t promise there won’t be some overlap as this is bound to happen with anyone that is truly passionate about what they do day in and day out.

Most of the posts will be pretty raw as I get my blogging chops together, so expect enough spelling and grammatical errors to make a 5 year old cringe, a Shakespeare I am not. In return I will make sure I keep it interesting with minimal regurgitation about the latest fads, you can read up on those in many other places.

Thanks for reading, be sure to drop by again soon.
